In any case, I’m pretty sure the Mexicans out there next doo are gonna die from heat stroke soon.
They are fat and not so young, and working in blaring sunshine.
At least when I move a rock every 20 minutes (already did 5 this morning!) I work in the shade.

Yep, that's a storm that is supposed to come up the coast and arrive here on Saturday. OR... It will swerve out to the ocean.

It will either rain here, or it will not.
It will definitely not snow, though.
Temps all this week are barely out of the 80s.... no snow, for sure.

Assuming there’s no clouds tomorrow, I will do this.
Sit on my patio 8am noon 3pm
When is it sunny and when is it shady

I am going to call a different guy TOMORROW to get a written estimate for a railing for the patio, and then I'll take it from there next week.

The Mexicans won't do anything new, unless their boss is there to approve it. (I know this because I finally met them for the first time a couple Saturdays ago). The boss is the only one who speaks English well enough. The rest of the guys are just worker bees who do only whatever he says to do. (And ps did you know that some of the 'guys' are women?)

The railing is most important first. I'll figure out a way to get in contact with the Mexicans myself once the railing is installed. It will give them some extra work to do in the autumn when there's no more grass to cut and they need more work anyway.

babies yet to be induced, its truces to be signed.

Most nature lovers will know that a few years ago alarm bells were sounded, as scientists realized that North American populations of monarch butterflies were drastically diminishing. Why? They pointed to a few causes: a lower supply of the monarch caterpillar’s only sustenance: milkweed; neonic pesticides interfering with caterpillar development; and deforestation of the adult butterflies’ southern migratory destination, Mexico.--on the land blog

Pulling ivy again today, did 6 more bags, have at least 25 more to go. Arms dead again.
Anyway, the best part of this is I’m finding old plant stakes of plants I completely forgot I had planted 15 years ago. All died and gone now of course because overgrown by ivy, but the names are on the stakes, and I’m amazed at how many nice plants I once had.
And all from mail order nurseries that don’t even exist anymore.
