in winter months, chickens don’t even lay enough eggs to make it financially worth it, even if the cost of keeping them was “free”. Which it is not.
Maybe these new enthusiast people are doing the “rent a chicken” thing where you give the chickens back to the breeder from Oct-March.
One guy interviewed had 3 chickens (and 4 kids) and they eat 1.5 dozen eggs per week.
3 chickens won’t get them even a dozen eggs per week in January.
It just doesn’t pay. Just get the 4 bucks carton at the grocery store. Cheaper and easier.
